ABOUT
A Nu Twist Salon was born in 2000 in the heart of Gainesville, Florida, with a mission to create a space where natural hair could be celebrated, nurtured, and styled with intention. Over two decades later, it has become a trusted name in multicultural hair care—known for its expertise in natural hair care, microlocs, loc extensions, Sisterlocks©, protective styles, color, luxury wash-and-gos, and healthy hair care for all textures.
At the helm is Emmy-nominated hairstylist Antoinette Black, a licensed Master Cosmetologist, and IATSE 798 Journeyman and Educator for Natural Hair and Locs. Antoinette’s journey has taken her from salon floors to television sets, where she has styled everyone from everyday professionals to celebrities and athletes. Her work has graced the screens of major film and TV productions, earning her recognition not just for her artistry, but for her deep understanding of textured hair in all its forms.
Her passion goes far beyond the chair. As a certified Hair Braider Educator & Proctor, Antoinette has trained and mentored dozens of stylists across the Southeast, helping them build sustainable careers rooted in skill, confidence, and community. Whether she’s behind the scenes on set or behind the chair in the salon, her commitment remains the same: to uplift, educate, and deliver excellence.
Because of the high demand for her expertise, appointments with Antoinette are limited and typically reserved for returning VIP clients or those who book in advance. But for those who sit in her chair, it’s more than just a service—it’s an experience rooted in care, culture, and craft.
